Making coffee or tea is all in how you prepare it. There are lots of different ways to brew both tea or coffee.There are so many different ways to make your coffee, you don’t have to settle for just one method. Experiment a little!
Brewing Basics
Coffee can be made many different ways, and the method you choose can have an effect on the taste of your final cup.
Proportion
The wrong proportion of coffee beans to water can have the same negative effect on the taste of coffee as using an improper grind. Use fewer grounds and your coffee will be weaker; add more grounds and it will be stronger.
Coffee comes in a huge spectrum of varieties, each with it’s own unique flavour and aroma.
Roasting
For the more adventurous coffee-drinker, you could try roasting your own beans. It’s a bit more work, but the freshness is worth it.

Grinding
It only takes a few moments to grind your own beans. The difference it makes will surprise you. You’ll need to know what grind your machine needs though.
Prior to grinding, make sure your coffee beans are specifically ground for your chosen brewing method. The wrong grind can quickly destroy the flavor of the very best gourmet beans. If the grind is too fine, the coffee will be bitter and over-extracted. If the grind is too coarse, the coffee will taste weak and sour.

Water
Water is the base from which all tea and coffee springs. You need good water before you get started brewing.
Just as inferior beans can affect the taste of your coffee, so can poor quality water. Always use fresh water. If your tap water tastes fine to drink, it should be fine for making fresh coffee; however, if you notice any traces of chlorine, iron, or other peculiar tastes, use quality bottled or filtered water instead.

Types of Tea

The main difference between loose teas and bagged teas is the size of the leaves. That’s what effects the resulting cup of tea. Tea leaves contain chemicals and essential oils, which are the basis for the delightful flavour of tea. When the tea leaves are broken up, those oils can evaporate, leaving a dull and tasteless tea. Typical tea bags are filled with the tiniest pieces of broken leaves, called fannings. Loose teas are typically whole leaves or at least large pieces of leaves.
On top of the leaf size, there is also the space factor. Tea leaves need space to swell, expand and unfurl. Good water circulation around the leaves is important, which doesn’t typically happen in a cramped little tea bag.
Even if you prefer a simple cup of black Keemun, or Assam, try getting your tea loose instead of in bags. If you enjoy a change now and again, you can get a wide variety of teas in bags, but there are many more to choose from if you shop for loose tea.
