Specialty Items- Baby peeled carrots with tops are steady and slightly lower. Baby squash are increasing, with sunburst as the best deal of the three main varieties. Specialty tomatoes are on the rise overall with less sunshine and hot weather to push them to grow. French beans are on the rise slowly as the winter approaches. Mexican papayas are improving in availability but prices are higher than ever, but are still a deal compared to Hawaiian papaya, pound for pound. Green Papayas are also back but pricy.
Seasonal Items- Fuyu and Hachiya Persimmons are coming on strong, along with Pomegranates, enjoy their sweet Fall flavor. Cranberries are available for all of your holiday cooking. The apple and pear seasons are both full force. To name a few we can offer: Ambrosia, Pippin, Cameo, Braeburn, Honeycrisp, Jonagold, Pink Lady and Rome Apples.
On the pear side we see Comice, Forelle, French Butter, Seckel, Taylor Gold, Red Anjou, Yali, Bosc and Hosui (Asian) available. Don’t forget the apple and pear cousin the Quince. Holiday seedless grapes are a giant red grape with sweet flavor and impressive looks the will complement any Fall table or amenity basket.
Local- Connelly Gardens has green beans coming in, the quality is great, get them buy ordering regular green beans or request them by name. Frisee and hydro boston lettuce from CG is right around the corner. Blue Heron Farms is supplying their famous organic mixed lettuce and some baby savoy spinach in a 2# pack.
Suzie’s Farm has a great spread of cooking/pie pumpkins and hard squashes, call for the details, too numerous to represent here. Their greens department is coming back on line with wild arugula cut fresh from the field.
