The Specialties Report
Specialty Veggies- Fingerling potatoes are coming back from the stratosphere but not quite back to earth. Prices are still elevated but have come down quite a bit. Teardrop Tomatoes are still very pricy, grape tomatoes are a good item to use instead. Yellow grape toms are limited but there are yellow cherry tomatoes available. Mixed Heirlooms are a good deal, we are seeing much better availability this year than in previous years.
White asparagus are a good alternative to the pricier green varieties. Seasonal Items- California Stonefruit is building slowly with all of the cool rainy weather we have had, prices should come off as the weather warms and
the fruit is pushed to size and ripeness. The best bet price wise right now are the white peaches and apricots. Mixed melons are on the rise with Canary, Tuscan, Santa Claus, Galia and Orange Honeydews. Yellow Watermelon have made their way onto the availability sheets but have been sporadic.
